No, I did not read 20+ books in the last week and write reviews for them. I published them on a previous incarnation of this blog and I did not want them to go to waste. The process was long and tedious, but I am happy with the choice to post them. The process also allowed me to reflect on how things have changed in the last year. Like…
- Egypt has gone through a revolution, and may not be safe to visit for a while;
- Alison Bechdel wrote a second graphic novel memoir, which wasn’t as engaging to me;
- The boy passed away;
- Clark Kent left the Daily Planet and now writes his own blog;
- I have read three other Sarah Palin-related autobiographies.
I needed that moment to step back and see how things changed. The world and this field change every day, but sometimes you don’t notice.
I had the same response to Bechdel’s second memoir. I want to re-read it, because I’m not sure if I was (ever so slightly) disappointed because of the book itself, or because I was expecting another book just like Fun Home.
Ah yeah that is a good point. I’ll admit, I was expecting another book like Fun Home, but I realized quickly that that wasn’t going to be the case. I was confused by the psychology asides though too.
That’s what really got me. I like reading about psychology, but seeing so much hard information in the context of a memoir really stunned me. Maybe another once-through will make the material easier to digest. 🙂
