Where Did The Summer Go?

listening :: S.S. Librarianship and Slaughterhouse-Five on cassette;

watching :: the beginnings of Buffy and Call the Midwife;

reading :: about yoga, The Interestings, and The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P.;

wanting :: tonight!, tacos for lunch!, and back-to-school shoes!;

working :: on less job hunting stuff and bracing for the Fall semester which entails a lot of prep work (But then, this is it);

writing :: journal entries, INALJ posts, and reviews;

thinking :: school resuming next week, finding peace after camp, running (i.e. – more doing, less thinking), slowing down, and getting involved with Girls on the Run.

How are you spending the long weekend?

An origin story of sorts

“How did you find LHU?”

I’ve been asked and have tried to answer that question quite a few times. LHU went on my radar because of a simultaneous BA-paralegal certification program. There were only so many programs that offered that in the country, and fewer that I would be remotely interested in. It wasn’t until after I was accepted did I learn that it was shut down. (How typical of LHU, I would later learn.) Still, I explored the school. It was cheap for an out-of-state school and had an impressive internship program which outweighed the lack of the paralegal courses. I wanted to get OUT of NJ so I made LHU work. Easily the best decision I’ve ever made in many ways.

But wouldn’t you know it – I got an email from the alum association last week announcing a “new” paralegal certification starting this fall at the university.

A Great Idea

This week I found myself at the Montclair Public Library. As explored, I found that the library actually houses a café/tearoom within. Terra operates during the hours during which the library is open and supports building the community through tea, food, and fair trade. What a great way for the library to additionally serve the community! Unfortunately I was unable to partake in what looked like a delicious and extensive afternoon tea menu but I will make this café a destination in the future. I mean, take a look at this window….

Sorry for the cop-out in terms of a photo – but I did really want to feature this song – Sunday Morning Stasis

listening :: above, Slaughterhouse-Five on cassette, and lots of NPR stories about gut bacteria, because cool;

watching :: Kaytlyn in The Great American Trailer Park Musical soon!;

reading :: The Spectacular Now and The Family Heirloom Project;

wanting :: more days like yesterday with friends, chatting and coffee, and a new laptop, maybe?;

working :: less job hunting stuff and bracing for the Fall semester;

writing :: blog posts and packing lists for upcoming trips;

thinking :: bacteria, program ideas for work and school, and what’s my next move in Scrabble with Devin and Steve.

Do you have a favorite letter? I’m a bit of a fan for the letter “C”…

August Rush

Image

listening :: Break up with back up (thanks, Mike) and NPR’s Keys to the Whole World: American Public Libraries series;

watching :: autotune videos with YA Librarian (a la 2010);

reading :: about Drupal, Will & Whit, and Drown;

wanting :: peace of mind?;

working :: on cover letters, (running) pacing, and my fall schedule;

writing :: a review for Library Journal, a thank-you card, and WordPress posts;

thinking :: Parking meters, January, and Kaytlyn’s opening night (BREAK ALL THE LEGS) .

Side note: I absolutely hate the movie “August Rush”, but I can’t believe how quickly August is flying by.

Is it ever going to stop raining?

And summer ended with a “ping”

Straying a bit from my usual posts about books, libraries and the like – tonight was the last night for both of my summer sports series: the Morris County Striders 5K series and the Hub Lakes Table Tennis league. It was nice balancing running for myself and playing on a team for table tennis. So much of running is individual and focused inward for me that I needed the camaraderie of playing with other people that table tennis provided. Like running, I discovered table tennis in college and fell in love with the game. I am not the best at either sports, but I love them regardless.

My goal for running the 4-race 5K series was to just become a smarter runner – learn and understand what I need to be happier with running, and I accomplished that. I have a better sense of what future running goals I want to set. Overall, I ended up earning the points in my age division for the series and thus, winning and taking home this sweet cup:

As for table tennis, I am going to start going to the weekly evening open play nights at the Clubhouse. It’s right back to my college years of Monday night table tennis – and I love it.
